Local IGA goes boutique

Timbertown SUPA IGA is being transformed into a boutique supermarket, stocking local produce and featuring a range of healthy-living products.

The store plans a major launch later this month to introduce its new-look and direction.

Chief Reconstruction Officer, Alyson Ogilvie-Lee, said there was a long list of local producers keen to participate in the transformation.

"We will be stocking local produce with a special emphasis on gluten-free and wheat-free products," she said.

"Some of these include, Blanches Organics, Near River Produce, East Coast Gourmet, Yarras Olive's, and The Other Chef, Hastings Lettuce Farm, Christopher's Meats and others.

"Our focus is on quality, natural produce with that emphasis on gluten-free as well as catering for people with food allergies.

"Our overall plan is to create a supermarket that contains approx 50% of more healthy choices.
"Our contribution in catering to the wellness of the community."

The staff have worked very hard over recent weeks to 'raise the bar' in quality and customer service.
Marketing manager, Tim Walker, said the boutique supermarket was an excellent opportunity for local producers.

"It is a great opportunity for these producers to have exposure to the broader markets, which normally they would not have access to. We are certainly looking to expand our level of support to quality local producers."

The launch on of the Co-op's Health and Wellness, 'Timbertown Country Grocer' will be held on Saturday 21st and from 10am to 1 pm it will include demonstrations of produce, how to combine available products for meals, a local chef will also be on-site to provide other helpful meal, food and gourmet suggestions for the health conscious.
