Franklins/IGA restructure continues

IGA conversions ongoing

The conversion of Franklins stores to IGA continues, with six more now sporting the IGA livery.

The six include Thirroul, Wetherill Park, Broadmeadow, Erina Heights, Crows Nest, and Swinger Hill.

Erina Heights, Broadmeadow, and Crows Nest are now owned by the Victorian-based Ritchie's chain; Swinger Hill IGA X-Press is owned by Alex Northey; Thirroul by long-time owner, David Hoade; and Wetherill Park by brothers Andrew and Paros Haridemos.

In addition to the Franklins conversions, Supa IGA Timbertown, in Wauchope, has transformed into a boutique supermarket, stocking more regional produce and a wider range of healthy living and locally sourced products.

IGA chief restructuring officer, Alyson Ogilvie-Lee, said there is a long list of local producers keen to participate in the transformation.

“Our overall plan is to create a supermarket that contains approximately 50 per cent of more local and healthy choices.

Our contribution is catering to the wellness of the community,” said Ogilvie-Lee.

Marketing manager, Tim Walker, said the boutique supermarket was an excellent opportunity for local producers.

"It is a great opportunity for these producers to have exposure to the broader markets, which normally they would not have access to.

We are certainly looking to expand our level of support to quality local producers."

Franklins stores coverted to the Ritchies IGA banner will have the advantage of becoming part of the Richties IGA Community Benefit Program, which donates a percentage of money spent by customers to a nominated club, school, or charity.

All IGA stores will offer the IGA Community Chest Program, which guarantees a percentage from every purchase of products displaying the IGA Community CChest ticket is collected by the store and given back to the community.
