Woolworths promoting young agriculturalists

Thirty young people on a Woolworths agriculture scholarship have welcomed the retailer's interest in their careers.

Woolworths says the program began six years ago in response to the ageing population of farmers, and the need to attract people back to the land.

Casey McEhlone, of the Indigenous-owned Kalano Farm at Katherine in the Northern Territory, says they've heard from the supermarket chain's key suppliers and food manufacturers.

"I've learnt a lot in the past two weeks about the passion that everyone has for what they do, and it's given me some great incentives and ideas to take home," she said.

"I just wanted to come so I could learn all that I could learn to take home."
