Coles has released a new three-minute ad on YouTube that features Status Quo performing a reworked version of the British band’s famous ‘Down, deeper and down’ track.
The 1975 hit was the inspiration for the Coles ‘Down, down, prices are down’ jingle introduced last year.
The drummer and keyboard players are also wearing the foam hands made famous by the TV commercials.
Shorter versions are to appear as TV commercials on all major free to air networks, with radio, digital and PR in support.
The ad was created by Ted Horton’s Big Red agency, with media by MB3.
The campaign marks another Coles price-cutting campaign with products such as cheese, fresh Australian lamb and UHT milk prices falling by up to 29%, according to the supermarket.
Coles merchandise director, John Durkan said: “Australian customers are feeling the pinch from a year of rising living costs including energy, healthcare and transport. We know our customers need our help now more than ever and we intend to keep going with new price cuts offering greater savings right across the store.”
