A tough rugby league player was on hand at Bunnings on Tuesday to help the hardware store promote some of its product range and highlight the robust nature of the goods on offer.
Bunnings' timberyard was turned into promotion alley with 18 supply companies such as Shelleys, Kingspan and AEG Tools providing information stalls while sharing the space with Murwillumbah's Men's Shed whose members provided the traditional barbecue and beverages.
Gold Coast Titans player Ryan James certainly attracted a crowd, however, not all visitors were of an age when commercial building products become important.
Mr James said he was invited to the afternoon's event because he was a "local boy" who grew up in Bilambil and attended Tweed River High School.
A number of young fans coaxed Mr James into joining in their funon a jumping castle where the young Titan became a target for the youthful admirers' football throwing efforts and a hurdle to be jumped over.
He said he thoroughly enjoyed his time with the kids and once he jumped off the castle rewarded the youngsters with signed posters and rugby balls.
Bunnings complex manager Wayne Thomas said the event was part of a new strategy introduced by the hardware store's trade division.
"We intend to do one of these every six months," Mr Thomas said.
